Voters in the Nov. 8 municipal election will decide whether to prohibit male circumcisions for those under 17 years of age in San Francisco -- with no exemptions for religious circumcisions, CNN reported Thursday.
Advocates of the measure likened circumcision to "male genital mutilation," said Lloyd Schofield, a member of the group seeking to outlaw the surgery.
Schofield and his group want to make it "unlawful to circumcise, excise, cut, or mutilate the whole or any part of the foreskin, testicles, or penis" of anyone 17 or younger in San Francisco."
The proposal calls for violators to be jailed for as much as a year or fined as much as $1,000, CNN reported.

No matter how you slice it, this is a controversial issue. Let’s cut to the chase; circumcision is a very personal issue, which at its base starts with religious beliefs and at its tip comes down to personal opinions. Once again, we see the government about to shave away freedom of choice as it becomes too involved in personal beliefs. Even if this law is passed the 9th circuit will take a knife to it. There is no way this can possibly be constitutional, and if passed this law will be hacked to pieces. All too often we see our government get involved with issues which clip away our personal freedoms.
I am hunched over reading this ... painful!
