Speaking on his Thursday show, Matthews lit into Palin--and Ailes:
This is so pathetic watching her on television. It's so pathetic that Roger Ailes has put her on television, sitting up in some box, some loony bin up in Alaska, sitting there answering these questions she doesn't know anything about. Did you hear what she just said, John? She said he should continue to attack the Republican plan. What's she up to here? Is she just not thinking or capable of thinking? What is going on here?In response, Ailes told TVNewser, "People tell me all the time it was truly pathetic that I was the one who gave Chris Matthews his start on television." (Ailes put Matthews on his "America's Talking" network in 1994.)
So far, Matthews hasn't responded to Ailes' comment.

I’ve always wondered who the genius was at FOX that decided it would be a good idea to hire Sarah Palin. Chris Matthews is correct. On her best day Sarah is goofy and makes little or no sense. What does Ailes see in her? For one; she is robotic and unwavering in her support of the Republican Party, and like any fanatic she can chirp the same message over and over again. There is no point to any of her remarks, and more often than not, she miss-speaks and miss-represents the facts. She is a “Stepford” pundit and carries the FOX dictated message forward, even when she doesn’t understand it. I guess if I was Mr. Ailes, I would have hired her too. She fits in nicely with the rest of their line-up and when you sit her next to someone like Glenn Beck, she can actually look smart.
