The interlude, which included a private visit to the Gilltown Stud escorted by the Aga Khan, was a break in a trip that has been laden with historic symbolism. Elizabeth, the first British monarch to visit the Irish Republic, has honored those who fell in the struggle for independence.
At the stud, the queen chatted with jockeys, including some who rode Arkle, the great Irish champion of the 1960s, and T.P. Burns, who was introduced as one of her former riders.
"No, for my mama," the queen replied.
An owner, Christina Patino, gave the queen a mating with her stallion, Big Bad Bob, for one of the royal mares.
The queen paid tribute Thursday to Garret Fitzgerald, the former Irish prime minister who died Wednesday.
Fitzgerald was known for his role in the 1985 Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985 and Elizabeth called him a "true statesman who made a lasting contribution to peace in Ireland," The Belfast Telegraph reported.
