Maddow has repeatedly decried what she views as a double standard: Weiner was forced out because of his sexts and pictures, but Republicans like David Vitter and John Ensign managed to stay in office even though they broke the law.
"Democrats have not only refused to hold Republicans accountable for the double standard, but they have joined with Republicans in piling on with the demands that Anthony Weiner had to resign even as David Vitter stays in the Senate," Maddow said. She then went on a long monologue, listing all the Republicans and Democrats who were not forced out of office even after admitting to more serious ethical violations than Weiner.
"Anthony Weiner, who was not accused of corruption, who does not appear to have done anything illegal, who does not even appear to have had sex with any of the women with any of the people with whom he had scandalous talk and picture-taking, for him a line was drawn," Maddow concluded, her voice bristling with anger. She then turned her focus on the media, saying that the story was actually "the media covering the media ending a man's career."
Maddow ended by addressing Democrats. She issued a dire warning.
"Congratulations, Democrats," she said. "In an era of unhinged, ideological, big money conservative media that is wholly and admittedly divorced from the precepts of journalism, in hounding Anthony Weiner into resigning ... you have just fed and unleashed this beast onto yourselves, probably for a generation."

Well; Rachel what did you expect? It’s politics. The Democratic leadership did do a pretty good job of serving Weiner up to the press and to the harsh white light of the media. He; however brought this on himself. He fell overboard, and it only took the smallest of cuts from his colleagues in Congress to get the blood flowing into the water. Then; as is most usually the case the sharks (media) began to circle him. Once the additional photos and the specifics of his texts began to surface, the shark (media) feeding frenzy went into hyper drive; at this point there was no saving the embattled Congressman. Rachel; did you think this would have a happy ending? Weiner was doomed from the very moment he stood in front of a mirror and clicked “OK” on his camera phone. The media will do what the media does and politicians will readily eat their young if it would get them just one additional vote. Anthony Weiner is a good man. Unfortunately he has a moral compass that doesn’t quite point north and it lead him astray. It is sad, because now he will never have the ability to do the good deeds he might have done, if only that compass had been just a little more accurate.
Ode to a Weiner
It’s such a shame that Weiner chose to defrock; he became the biggest joke for us all to mock.
His point was made with a camera he would aim. Don’t you wonder; does he feel the shame?
A text here and a tweet there, it is truely my hope that you will never again be bare.
Put away your underpants and turn out the light; alls that is left is for you to say goodnight.
I hope in the future if you decide to show it all; you will stop and think and remember your great fall.
So goodbye Tony Weiner, it is you I will miss, and remember my dear friend;
don’t take pictures of that thing you use when you take a piss.
